A member of the Somali regional parliament was abducted and killed by Al-Shabab militants (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) near the city of Balad, 30 kilometers north of Mogadishu. Mohammed Mohamud Siyad was driving from Jowhar to the Somali capital, Mogadishu, when he was abducted on Sunday, July 5, according to sources. The car in which Siyad was driving was stopped by kidnappers near the village of Gololey, north of Balad.
